Dr. Paul Cheung, Managing Director of HKU's wholly-owned subsidiary VERSITECH that is responsible for software design and development, and Mr. Dan Choi, Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development) of Hongkong Post which provides support and participates in the software's trail run, will be present to give an introduction of this software.
The "e-Cert FileGuard" software is the first software that is free and available for use by everyone in our community. It supports the use of the e-Cert embedded in the Hong Kong Smart ID Card to ensure that confidentiality and data integrity of the documents are maintained while they are transmitted over the Internet. With the user-friendly graphical interface and features, users can easily install and run the program at an instance. It is an easy-to-use software that supports both Chinese and English specially designed for users to experience the advantages of using digital certificates in transferring electronic documents. This software will bring convenience to over 1 million HK Smart ID Card e-Cert users.

HKU launches "e-Cert FileGuard" Software

Tomorrow (21 September 2005) the University of Hong Kong will launch its "e-Cert FileGuard" software. It is developed by HKU with the support of Hongkong Post. A press conference will be held on the same day.
