HKU workshop on Global Governance, Underground Economy and its Impact on Human and Health Security in East Asia
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold a conference tomorrow (June 15, Saturday) on Global Governance, Underground Economy and its Impact on Human and Health Security in East Asia.
The one-day conference will provide a forum for the public, HKU staff and students as well as experts from East Asia to exchange views on the development and growth of the various illicit industries in the region. Topics to be discussed include black market trade of human organs in China, human smuggling, exploitation of fishery resources in South China Sea, shadow banking and cross border capital flow in southern China, and the impact of China’s online underground economy in East Asia.

HKU to hold the 7th International Conference on Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology - An advanced understanding of marine pollution and changes of marine ecosystems (date changed)
The “International Conferences on Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology” have been signature events in the international arena of marine environmental research since 1995. The University of Hong Kong will hold the 7th International Conference on Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology from June 17 to 21, 2013. An opening ceremony will be held on June 18, 2013 (Tuesday).
The conference, supported and sponsored by the United Nations, will be attended by some 250 scientists and environmental managers from 24 countries. It aims to discuss and advance the understanding of local, regional and global marine pollution problems, in the hope that such problems may be more easily solved in the future. Several world renowned experts will be invited to share their experience and views with local scientists from Hong Kong and China.
Under Secretary for the Environment Ms Christine Loh Kung-wai, JP; Dr Gil Jacinto, Representative of PEMSEA, United Nations; HKU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Lap Chee Tsui and Director of HKU School of Biological Sciences Professor Rudolf Wu will be the officiating guests at the ceremony.

The Conference
The 7th International Conference on Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology will focus on the following five key areas, which are likely to be important in the coming years, both in Hong Kong and worldwide:
- Climate change and marine ecosystems;
- Endocrine disrupting chemicals and issues of emerging concern;
- Hypoxia and eutrophication;
- Innovative technologies for pollution monitoring and control;
- Risk assessment and management.

The Lingering Rhythm of Tianfeng Studio - Artworks of Gao Qi-feng and His Seven Apprentices
Co-organized by Guangdong Art Institute and Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole, HKU, The Lingering Rhythm of Tianfeng Studio - Artworks of Gao Qi-feng and His Seven Apprentices will commence on 13 June to 19 June at the Guangdong Art Institute, and 18th June to 26th July at the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole. This exhibition demonstrates the superior art accomplishment of the masters of Tianfeng Studio, and it also indicates the great significance in the development of Lingnan School painting.
On the basis of Gao's painting skills, the Seven Apprentices - Gao Qi-feng, Zhou Yi-feng, Zhang Kun-yi, Ye Shao-bing, Ho Chat Yuen, Huang Shao-qiang, Rong Shu-shi, and Zhao Shao-ang walked out of their own path and become dominant figures in the art field of Southern China, including Hong Kong. Their outstanding technique is best defined by a quote from Shitao, "My mind is in my painting".
