HKU Provost Professor Paul Tam to be Acting President & Vice-Chancellor

Professor Paul Tam, the Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will be the Acting President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong from February 1, 2018 until the assumption of duty of Professor Xiang Zhang later this year.
The arrangement is made under the provisions in Section 12(13) of the University Ordinance. As the Acting President & Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tam is given all the authority and responsibility of the President & Vice-Chancellor to make sure that all University business will be conducted as usual.
The Council of the University at its meeting on January 30 (Tuesday) recorded its thanks to Professor Peter Mathieson for his valuable contributions to the University in the past years. The Council also thanked Professor Tam for agreeing to be the Acting President & Vice-Chancellor and invited all staff, students, and alumni to lend every support to Professor Tam during this transitional period.
